SampsonRMC Marks 75 Years of Care with Community Celebration

This fall, Sampson Regional Medical Center will mark a milestone few organizations reach – 75 years of serving the people of Sampson County and beyond. To celebrate, the hospital will host a special 75th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. on the hospital front lawn, inviting the community to join in honoring the past, celebrating the present, and looking toward the future of healthcare in Sampson County.

Founded in 1950 as Sampson County Memorial Hospital, the facility opened its doors from a vision born from local leaders who wanted to ensure that healthcare was available close to home. Since then, the hospital has welcomed generations of families through its doors. Since October of 1950, almost 40,000 babies have been delivered at the hospital – a powerful reminder of how deeply SampsonRMC is woven into the life stories of so many families.

Over the decades, the hospital has expanded and adapted to meet the changing needs of the community, growing into the regional medical center it is today.
“Seventy-five years ago, our community made an investment in itself by building this hospital,” said Dr. Shawn Howerton, Chief Executive & Chief Medical Officer of Sampson Regional Medical Center. “From the first patient admitted in 1950 to the thousands we care for each year today, this hospital has always been about one thing: serving people with compassion, excellence, and dedication. This anniversary gives us a chance to reflect on the legacy and say thank you to the many individuals who have made it possible.”

Through the years, SampsonRMC has been more than just a hospital; it has been a place where generations of families have welcomed new life, received healing, and found comfort during times of need. From the expansion of surgical suites in the 1970s, to the establishment of specialty clinics in the 1990s, to today’s advanced diagnostic and outpatient services, the hospital has continually grown alongside its community.

The 75th Anniversary Celebration will feature remarks from hospital and community leaders, as well as historical displays showcasing the hospital’s journey.
“We are proud of our history, but we are also excited about the future,” added Howerton. “Healthcare is always evolving, and as we look ahead, we remain committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care right here at home. The next 75 years are just as important as the first.”

The hospital plans to celebrate this momentous achievement on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., on the hospital’s front lawn.

The public is warmly invited to attend as Sampson Regional Medical Center celebrates a proud legacy of care and community.
